Sound & Vision partners with Defund CPD Mass Resistance Trainings

This summer Free Write Sound & Vision proudly partnered with the #DefundCPD campaign to provide production and equipment support to a series of #DefundCPD events and trainings which happened across Chicago this summer, in the interest of (literally and figuratively) amplifying their message.

The first events, Defund CPD Mass Resistance Trainings organized by Black Abolition Network, which took place over July 4th weekend, offered an orientation to police/prison abolition, how we are going to defund the police in Chicago, and how we can use organizing, direct action, and movement building to win.

On July 24th, more than ten grassroots organizers came together including Black Abolitionist NetworkBYP 100Let Us Breathe CollectiveChicago Community Bond Fund, and more to host the Freedom Square Anniversary Rally to #DefundCPD, to celebrate the four year anniversary of organizers liberating the vacant lot across from CPD black site Homan Square and holding a protest encampment for 41 days. At the rally, people gathered to enjoy food and performances, and to collectively imagine a world where we divest from torture, genocide, and slavery and invest in our beautiful future.
